locomotive, externally resembling the UK locomotive in appearance but with a different
internal control desk to accommodate for the addition of German rail systems.
The locomotive is operated by a number of German hauliers, including Euro Cargo Rail, HGK,
Rail4Chem and HHPI, and regularly hauls heavy freight across Germany and Western Europe.
The BR 266 for Train Simulator is available in grey/silver livery and features SIFA driver
vigilance, PZB and LZB signalling systems, along with Megafret container wagons.

locomotives built in the 1960s and 1970s for the Deutsche Bundesbahn, of which the BR 218
was the most numerous, with 12 prototype locomotives and 398 main production
locomotives built in total.
They were seen as a multi-use locomotive, operating passenger and freight services on main
lines and secondary branch lines before reunification of Germany. Such was their success,
they went on to be used across the country's railway network well into the 2000s, with many
still in use for freight and yard work, and others as 'Thunderbird' rescue locomotives on
electrified lines.
Despite their relatively fast top speed of 87mph (140km/h), the Class was displaced by newer
diesel multiple units (DMUs), electrification of the rail network and new diesel locomotives
introduced by DB.
The BR 218 for Train Simulator is available in Deutsche Bahn Traffic Red livery and includes a
non-powered BR 146 as a failed locomotive to recreate 'Thunderbird' operations. Features of
the model include PZB signalling and a rake of passenger coaches in DB white livery for
Quick Drive use, complete with passenger view.

Flexibility) is a modular product platform of electric and diesel-electric passenger and freight
locomotives, designed to enable the quick and efficient production of mainline models for a
variety of European railway companies.
The first TRAXX version was a dual voltage AC locomotive built in 1996 for the German rail
network, with DC and diesel versions added in later years and around 1,000 models built to
date.
In July 1998, Adtranz – later to be bought by Bombardier – received a follow-on order for
400 more medium weight freight locomotives, the BR 185. They were intended to be double
voltage to allow international operations and, in line with the TRAXX ethos, included parts
used on their predecessor, the BR 145, with the additional of European train protection
systems and a lower height to meet international loading gauges.
The Europalok, as they were to become known, had a top speed of 140km/h (87mph) and
operated as a general purpose freight locomotive. More than 300 BR 185.5 locomotives
were built and sold to various train operators, including leasing companies, throughout
Europe, including Switzerland, France and Germany.
The BR 185.5 for Train Simulator is available in MRCE Black livery as it appears today on the
German rail network as a freight locomotive. Features of the model include PZB and LZB
signalling systems, and Zacns 95 tank freight wagons.

many of the German locomotive manufacturers of that era, it was a 2-8-2 tank locomotive
and 776 were built. The first 10 locomotives were built with counter pressure brakes to be
operable on mountain routes.
The Class 86 was designed to be operated on goods trains across branch line routes
throughout Germany and beyond with Deutsche Bundesbahn, ÖBB (Austrian Federal
Railways) and PKP (Poland) all being buyers of this locomotive.
After 1942, the Class 86 started to be built as 'transitional war' variants to simply the design,
making construction and maintenance cheaper and easier during the Second World War,
changes were made to the cab windows and the wheels to name a few.
The first member of the class was retired as early as 1945 by ÖBB who withdrew their entire
fleet by 1972. During their operating life this class did haul incredible ore trains with the aid
of the DBR Class 52s. Deutsche Bundesbahn retired all engines in 1974, the DR used the
engines till 1976, with two of the engines being re-activated in 1982 untill 1988. The last
loco to be withdrawn was 86 0001, making it the longest serving of all the standard
locomotives in a scheduled service by a national railway at an impressive 60 years old.
Twelve Class 86s have survived into preservation today with 9 stored in Germany, 2 in
Austria and 1 in Poland. One loco has been preserved, the DB BR 86 457 which unfortunately
got extensively damaged in the fire at the Nuremberg Transport Museum.
The DR BR 86 for Train Simulator recreates the Class 86 steam locomotive as it operated for
DB and DR as a mixed traffic locomotive in the common black and red livery from the 1930s
used by Deutsche Bundesbahn. As a steam locomotive that operated into the 1970s and
1980s, it is fitted with modern safety systems such as PZB and also comes with Ucs wagons
in black and white with the DB logo and Shimms wagons in DB Schenker and Railion livery.
The DR BR 86 features Driver Assist which provides you with real-time feedback on the
handling of the locomotive, and can teach you how to provide optimum control input in
order to keep the engine at peak operating condition.

locomotives that date back to the 1970s including the DB BR 103 and DB BR 120. Both once-
revolutionary locomotives had more than outlived their purpose where they were now
hauling heavier trains than they had ever been designed for, this resulted in a lot of damage
over time with increasingly poor reliability rates and maintenance costs. Germany was in
desperate need of a new express passenger locomotive.
Following the reunification of Germany, the newly formed Deutsche Bahn AG (DBAG) went on
the lookout for designs, with many manufacturing companies bidding for the deal. There
were over 30 designs in the second phase of bidding some of which were quickly eliminated,
in particular the non-German manufacturers. One company in particular, ABB Henschel,
didn't even have a design ready to show, but more of a concept known as the eco2001. The
eco2001 was basically 2 modified DB BR 120s, with changes to various components that
massively increases the reliability of the locomotives.
In 1994, DB signed a deal with ABB which would develop into an order of 145 locomotives
the following year, with the first locomotive completed and displayed in the Orient Red livery
by July 1996. Around this time, ABB had merged with AEG to form ADtranz, this was
beneficial because it meant the future DB BR 101s would be built quicker in multiple
locations. Different components were built at a variety of facilities, with the final assembly
taking place in Poland. The first DB BR 101 officially entered service in February 1997.
The DB BR 101 was designed and procured to be an efficient, high speed passenger
locomotive and is capable of achieving this in part due to the carefully structured sloped
front and rear of the locos. This slope may look extreme in places, but it optimises
streamlined efficiency to its maximum especially when compared to its cost-effectiveness.
The slope is also designed not to disrupt the flow of air between the rear of the locomotive
and whatever it may be hauling. The DB BR 101 was also designed with bogies derived from
the ICE series, as a basis for potential speed modifications in the future, as fast as 250 km/h.
All 145 locomotives were completed by 1999 and entered service hauling express passenger
services across the Deutsche Bahn network including the likes of the Nuremberg – Munich
High Speed Line where the 101s operate the fastest regional service in Germany at 200
km/h. All the DB BR 101s are based in Hamburg where they receive their periodic safety
checks and maintenance, they were originally based in Frankfurt, but with the rapid increase
of the various ICE series' and push-pull operated consists, they were moved to Hamburg
despite the amount of driver training that would require, the 101s sometimes visit
Nuremburg for major maintenance works.
The basis of the DB BR 101 has its roots in some of the most ground breaking electric
locomotives, so much so it shares a lot of heritage with the popular TRAXX series of
locomotives and a variation of the DB BR 101 was ordered for a most unlikely customer, New
Jersey Transit, which in the early 2000s worked with ADtranz/Bombardier to procure their
ALP-46 and ALP-46A locomotives.

The incredible Rhine Railway has linked
Troisdorf and Cologne via both the impressive Gremberg yard and the Hohenzollern Bridge
since 1874. Today this line is part of the S-Bahn network out of Cologne Hbf, with the S12,
S13 and S19 lines working this section.
Since the concept of a Cologne-Frankfurt High-Speed railway was proposed, a brand-new
loop of track was included to allow both Inter-City Express and S-Bahn services to link rail
and air, providing frequent services to and from Cologne Bonn Airport. The new 15km loop
saw its first services in 2004, with the S13 line diverted to frequent the line and bring rail
traffic to the airport and vice versa.
You'll be amazed as you pull into the new station built at Cologne Bonn Airport. Grand in its
own right and buried underground, this station is capped off with an overarching glass roof,
allowing light to shine down onto the 400m long island platforms. The S13 Line, combined
with the S19 which also operates along the loop, provides a 24/7 service between Cologne
