route, now available for Train Simulator.
The route features a collection of railway lines representing the journey from Carlisle to
Stranraer, via Dumfries, just prior to the Beeching axe, which saw many of these lines
disappear. From Carlisle to Gretna, travel the route of the old Caledonian Railway before
joining the Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway bound for Dumfries. At Dumfries, the line
branches again and continues along the Castle Douglas and Dumfries Railway, and at Castle
Douglas continues along the Portpatrick and Wigtownshire Railway to Stranraer. Numerous
yards and sheds can also be seen along the route, including Kingmoor Yard, London Road
Sidings, Longtown MoD, Gretna Junction, Dumfries Depot, and Stranraer Harbour.
Western Lines of Scotland, developed by Keith Ross, also includes a re-worked BR Black 5 4-
6-0, which comes in light, intermediate and heavy weathered variants, and an option for a
front buffer beam mounted BR Type 06 snow plough on the locomotive. There are also
accurate headcode options to correctly represent the rolling stock being hauled, and realistic

-BR Standard Class 2MT

Steam.- The smallest of British Railway's Standard class locomotives, the BR Standard Class 2MT, is
now available for Train Simulator.
Originally derived from the Ivatt-designed Class 2MT for the London, Midland and Scottish
Railway, the BR Standard Class 2MT was designed by R.A. Riddles with a 2-6-0 wheel
arrangement and tender, with some differences to its LMS cousin. Noticeably, these included
a reduced cab and taller chimney, and copied the tender cab from the LMS version to give
the crew better visibility, especially when running tender first.
The Class 2MT, often nicknamed 'Mickey Mouse', was also designed to be light in weight so it
could operate on mostly light laid routes and secondary lines, primarily in the North of
England and Scotland, proving its versatility to haul passenger and freight trains. The BR 2MT
is also known as having one of the shortest operating lives of BR steam locomotives, being
built between December 1952 and November 1956, and being withdrawn a few short years
later by August 1967. However, four of the class have survived on the UK's preserved lines.
The Standard Class 2MT for Train Simulator, developed by Digital Traction, is available in
British Railways black livery with early and late crests, and features lamp and firebox effects,
custom headcode and headlamps, realistic driving physics and steam effects.

-LMS Class 3F 'Jinty'

Steam.- The diminutive Class 3F 'Jinty' 0-6-0 tank engine, designed by Henry Fowler and based on
the Midland Railway Class 2441, is now available for Train Simulator in a number of LMS and
BR liveries.
In total, more than 400 of these locomotives were built between 1924 and 1931, originally
for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) and were often called upon for freight
duties, although some could be seen on local passenger services and as banking
locomotives.
The LMS took on additional 'Jintys' from the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (S&DJR) in
1930, and some also saw service in France for the War Department. Two 'Jintys' were also
converted for service on the Irish broad gauge network.
At the time of British railway nationalisation, a total of 417 locomotives entered service with
British Railways in 1948 and survived for another 19 years, the class being fully retired by
1967. Due to their large numbers, late withdrawals and renowned performance, ten of these
engines were preserved, with at least four still in operational condition today on Britain's
heritage railways.
The Class 3F 'Jinty' for Train Simulator, developed by Meshtools, is available in BR early, mid
and late liveries, as well as a BR late polished livery, LMS early and late liveries, and National
Coal Board orange livery. The model comes in two variants - a standard easy-to-use version
that is fully HUD and Xbox controller compatible, and a highly realistic version that will give
you a highly realistic steam driving experience. Also included are a 12t Open Wagon, 12t
Wagon with Tarp, Box Van and Brake Van. All freight wagons are available with and without
loads, and in both unfitted grey and bauxite fitted variants.

-BR/LNER Class J50

Steam.- The Gresley-designed Class J50 from Meshtools is now available for Train Simulator in a
number of BR and LNER liveries.
The origins of the Class J50 were in the Sir Nigel Gresley-designed Class J23, an 0-6-0T
steam locomotive designed in 1913 for the purpose of working short-haul coal traffic in
Yorkshire. Forty Class J23s were built for the Great Northern Railway (GNR) between 1913
and 1922 and proved to be an adaptable locomotive in the compact coal yards of the North.
At the time of Grouping in 1923, the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) adopted the
Class J23 and reclassified it as the J50 and J51 – the former with larger boilers and the J51
with smaller boilers. The LNER continued to build a further 62 Class J50s between 1924 and
1939, and rebuilt its Class J51s to Class J50s between 1929 and 1935.
Four subdivisions of the Class J50 distinguished variations during construction, including the
fitting of steam or vacuum brakes, left or right-hand drive and long or short coal bunkers.
With the nationalisation of Britain's railway network, British Railways inherited the LNER
Class J50s, and they continued in service as shunting and short-haul locomotives.
Withdrawal of the Class began in September 1958 at the arrival of diesel shunters, and all
regular locomotives were withdrawn by September 1963, leaving just departmental
locomotives in service. These were subsequently withdrawn by September 1965.
The Class J50 for Train Simulator, developed by Meshtools, is available in a number of British
Railways and LNER liveries, including BR Green, BR Early, BR Late, BR Mid, LNER Black and
LNER Green. Features of the locomotive include standard and advanced driving controls, with
extra scripting on the advanced controls to depict vacuum brakes, dampers, notched
reverser, exterior animations and controller emitters.

Steam.- The Bo-Bo Class 20 'Chopper' is now available for Train Simulator in BR Green livery,
complete with scenarios for the stunning Western Lines of Scotland route.
Built initially from 1957 to 1962, and then again from 1966 until 1968, the 228 locomotives
in the Class were designed to haul freight, but were often pressed into service during the
summer months on seaside specials. The first batch of 128 locomotive were built with head
code discs and painted in BR green with a grey roof; the second batch of 100 locomotives
were fitted with head code boxes.
Known by their nickname 'Choppers', a name derived from the distinctive beat that the
engine produced under load and resembling the sound of a helicopter, the Class 20's
relatively low power output – 1,000 horsepower – saw many operate in pairs across the
British rail network. This was also due to the poor visibility caused by their long nose, which
saw the locomotives run almost exclusively cab first.
As freight operations on the network decreased, the Class 20 started to become obsolete
and disappeared from regular appearances on the mainline. However, many locomotives
were transferred to private operators, including Direct Rail Services and for use on the
construction of the Channel Tunnel and High Speed 1.
A total of 26 models have also been preserved, including the first of the Class built – D8000
– which is part of the National Railway Collection at the National Railway Museum in York,
UK.
The Class 20 for Train Simulator is a former Iron Horse House model, which has been
updated to Train Simulator standard, including new scenarios and improved exterior
modelling. It is available in light weathered British Railways Green livery, representing a
model from the first batch of Class 20s built and featuring changeable front and read head
code discs. Other detailing includes slow speed control for 'merry-go-round' trains, cab and
instrument lighting, and 16-ton mineral wagons.

livery.
Built for British Rail between 1961 and 1962 by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon
Company, the 69 models in the Class initially saw use around London and in Scotland. Later
in their life, the majority of the Class were permanently located in Scotland to replace ageing
DMUs and the older Class 17s.
With a top speed of 90mph (145 km/h), a number of Class 27s were converted to operated
push-pull services between Edinburgh and Glasgow, although they were also used for freight
services as well.
The intensive, high speed running of push-pull services saw reliability begin to suffer, and
the Class began to be phased out of revenue generating services from 1980 onwards. The
last example was withdrawn from service in 1987, although eight Class 27s have been
preserved on various heritage railways in the UK.
The Class 27 for Train Simulator is available in British Railways green livery and is a former
Iron Horse House model, which has been updated to Train Simulator standard, including new
scenarios and improved exterior modelling. Features include engine on/off buttons, AWS
sunflower and reset, instrument and cab lighting, and BR Mk1 coaches in maroon livery.

comes to Train Simulator in British Railways black livery.
The Standard Class 2-10-0 locomotive was designed by Robert Riddles for BR and was the
last in a series of standardised locomotive classes designed in the 1950s. The Class was
originally intended for use on heavy freight trains at fast speeds over long distances;
however, it proved extremely capable and versatile, being used on passenger services as
well.
In total, 251 locomotives were built in the Class, and 92220 Evening Star was the last steam
locomotive to be built by BR in 1960.
Withdrawals of the Class began in May 1964, although some survived until the end of British
steam in 1968. Nine locomotives in the Class survived the scrapyard, with Evening Star now
being part of the National Collection in the UK and others either in full working order or in
restoration.
The 9F for Train Simulator is a former Iron Horse House model, which has been updated to
TS2015 standard, including new scenarios and improved exterior modelling. It is available in
BR Black livery in both single and double chimney variants with BR1A and BR1D tenders. Also

Railways livery.
Ten 6MT Clan Class locomotives were built by British Railways between 1951 and March
1952 at BR's Crewe Works, although another 15 were planned but never built following BR's
modernisation plan in the early 1950s.
Designed by Robert Riddles, the 4-6-2 Pacific tender steam locomotive was based on the
Britannia Class design but incorporating a smaller boiler and various weight-saving measures
to increase their route availability, including the west of Scotland.
Ultimately, the Class was deemed a failure and all 10 locomotives were withdrawn from
service by June 1966. None have survived into preservation, although a private project to
build the next locomotive in the class, 72010 Hengist, is currently ongoing.
The 6MT Clan Class for Train Simulator is a former Iron Horse House model, which has been
updated to TS2015 standard, including new scenarios and improved exterior modelling. It is

-BR Standard Class 6 'Clan Class'

Steam.- Recount the bygone era of Pacifics in Scotland, and provide a glimpse into the potential
future where 72010 is brought to life in this exquisite Just Trains Pro-Range Add-on for Train
Simulator!
Following the nationalisation of Britain's 'Big Four' railway companies into British Railways in
1948, it was decided that many new steam locomotives would be built with a standard
design in mind. This practice would ensure common parts were used across a variety of
locomotive types, nation-wide, avoiding the significant cost of maintaining older designs
that differed greatly from region to region.
Robert Riddles, former apprentice of the LNWR, subsequent Stanier-assistant and Vice-
President of the LMS, was appointed 'Member of the Railway Executive for Mechanical and
Electrical Engineering' of British Railways. Riddles, along with two assistants (both former
LMS), were to oversee the design and construction of Britain's new standard locomotives.
The standard locomotives were to incorporate the best of the 'Big Four's successes, however
naturally, with three ex-LMS men in charge of constructing the new locomotives, many
aspects of the former operator's designs were present and this became apparent as new
traction rolled off the production line. Common features found on the locomotives were high
running plates, taper boilers, two cylinders and streamlined cabs. For express operations, the
reliable 4-6-2 Pacific design was used.
One such 4-6-2 rolled out of Crewe Works in December 1951. Designated the BR Standard
Class 6, or 6MT (Mixed-Traffic), this new locomotive was primarily based on the previous
7MT Britannia Class, and was destined to work in Western Scotland. To be useful 'up north',
the Standard Class 6 was built with a smaller boiler, increasing the route availability by
saving weight. A total of 10 Class 6 locomotives, which were named the Clan Class, were
constructed; the last of which was ready in March 1952. More were planned, another 15 in
fact, however continuous steel shortages delayed the order, and the publication of the 1955
Modernisation Plan put paid to any hope of seeing more Clans.
The 6MT Clan Class got its naming from a desire to represent Scotland on the rails.
Previously, the Highland Railway had its own 'Clan Class', which was steadily disappearing
after a lengthy working life. Each of the 6MT locomotives, 72000-72009, were named after
a Scottish Clan, specifically; Buchanan, Cameron, Campbell, Fraser, MacDonald, MacGregor,
MacKenzie, MacKintosh, MacLeod and Stewart, 5 of which were in common with the older
Highland locomotives. The aforementioned plan to build extra Clan Class engines already
had names in place, 5 of which were not actually 'Clans' as they would've served the
Southern Region if true.
In service, the Clan Class was subject to a mixed reception. Those who were trained to make
her steam had little quarrel over performance, the fleet could cope with any duty it was
designed for. Many crews out of Carlisle and Glasgow, where the Clans were based, found
them trickier to master as the low number of locomotives hindered effective training.
Nation-wide trials took place in 1958, and while inherently similar in performance –
regardless of location – their utter similarity to the Britannia Class caused confusion. The
Clan Class was often booked to operate Class 7 duties, naturally, being pressed into services
that required more power resulted in falling behind schedule and, unfortunately, damaged
the Clans' reputation to the point of being deemed a failure.
Despite what management said, and the lack of chance to improve the fleet, those who had
the chance to man the Clans were taken by them – when steamed and stoked properly of
course. In many regards, the Clans succeeded in fulfilling their duties as a standardised, all-
purpose locomotive.
As is the case with all BR Standard Classes, the end of the steam-era saw plenty of
locomotives retire long before their operational lives were at a close. The Clans were no
exception, with the eldest having survived only 14 years on the rails. Due to only 10 being in
service, it did not take long for all the Clans to be scrapped, none survived beyond August
1966.
There is some light at the end of the tunnel for the Clan Class. In recent years, the Standard
Steam Locomotive Company have begun work on what would've been the 11th locomotive
in the class, 72010 Hengist. This loco, when first planned, was one of five bound for the
Southern Region and could have lived a rewarding life racing down to the Kent Coast. With
any luck, 72010 will one day be reality, resurrecting the Clan Class and becoming the
1000th BR Standard steam locomotive ever built.
The BR Standard Class 6 includes all 10 named members of the 4-6-2 Pacific locomotive, in
clean, intermediate and weathered BR Brunswick Green livery and features the standard BR1
tender; also included is the in-production 11th member, 72010 Hengist, complete with
modern safety features and modern BR1B tender. First Open, Tourist Standard Open and
Brake Standard Open Mk1 coaches are also included in multiple BR liveries.
A selection of career scenarios are included which see you put the BR Standard Class 6
to work on the Western Lines of Scotland route, and a variety of Quick Drive consists will allow
you to experience the Class 6 wherever you may choose!
