The Edinburgh-Glasgow Expansion Pack is a recreation of the line from Edinburgh Waverley
to Glasgow Queen Street via Falkirk High, and including the Grangemouth Intermodal terminal and refinery area. Originally dating back to 1842, the line runs through open countryside passing through several stations including Haymarket, Linlithgow, Polmont, Falkirk High and Bishopbriggs, and passes the famous Murrayfield Stadium outside Edinburgh and the world famous Falkirk Wheel. Also included is the Falkirk Grahamston Branch between Polmont and Greenhill Upper Junction and the Class 170 Turbostar DMU. The route features highly-detailed models of both terminus stations, all stations along the line and the expansive intermodal terminal and refinery area, complete with atmospheric sound effects. The Edinburgh-Glasgow Expansion Pack has been developed by Thomson Interactive with a focus on the 'driver's eye' view, all station and line-side features being fully detailed and more distant landscape features represented with simpler detail to improve game rendering performance while driving. The updated General Motors built Freightliner Class 66 V2.0 'Shed' is now available for Train Simulator, with scenarios for the Edinburgh-Glasgow route. The Class 66 was introduced to the UK in 1998 as a replacement to the popular Class 59, using the same body shell as its forerunner but with updated power units, internal fittings, new computer control systems, radial steering bogies and 3,000hp engines. In total, 446 of the Class were built, quickly making the Class 66 the diesel freight locomotive of choice among UK freight operators, including Freightliner, GB Railfreight, Direct Rail Services and EWS, mainly for freight operations but also with some charter passenger services on their roster. Their popularity has also seen variations of the Class 66 enter service for European operators as a result of their versatility. The Freightliner Class 66 V2.0 for Train Simulator is a re-worked model of a previous version, with an updated and improved interior and re-modelled exterior. Available in Freightliner livery, the model features accurate brake control and centre-sprung brake lever, accurate engine and horn sounds, FEA-B Spline and KTA Pocket intermodal container wagons. Scenarios specifically for the Edinburgh-Glasgow route are also included. The Class 57/0 was introduced as a rebuilt version of the redundant Class 47, and externally both classes look the same. Internally, the Class 57/0 received a refurbished General Motors engine, reconditioned alternator, and their performance and reliability was vastly improved. This was considered to be a much more cost effective way to replace the Class 47 than to introduce a new class of diesel locomotive altogether. An initial order for six Class 57/0s from Freightliner in 1997 saw the 'Bodysnatchers' employed on heavy haulage freight services, including intermodal trains, and further orders steadily increased the company's fleet. Although not at first, later models of the Class 57/0 were fitted with an electric train supply (ETS), making them attractive acquisitions for passenger companies such as Virgin and First Great Western. The Class 57/0 for Train Simulator, developed by Oovee Entertainment, is available in Freightliner livery and features illuminating dial and cab lights, train length system, working roof fans, dynamic exhaust smoke, Driver's Vigilance Device, Advisory Notification System, and scenery assets including temporary speed restriction boards, emergency indicator boards and temporary AWS magnets. The Class 08 was the 'go to' locomotive for general purpose duties, with almost any shunting required in yards and at stations carried out by a 'Gronk'. Over a ten year period from 1952, almost 1,000 models were built at British Railways' Derby, Crewe, Darlington, Doncaster and Horwich Works, making it the most numerous of all BR classes. The Class 08 was based on the LMS 12033 series, later classified by TOPS as the Class 11, and is fitted with a English Electric six cylinder, four-stroke 6KT engine and low gearing for a top speed of 15mph. Models with higher gearing were classified as Class 09s. With the privatisation of the British railway system and the introduction of multiple units and fixed rakes of wagons and coaches, the Class 08 soon became obsolete and many were withdrawn from service. However, around 100 locomotives remain in service for the likes of EWS/DB Schenker, First Great Western, Freightliner and Virgin Trains, and more than 60 examples are preserved on Britain's heritage railways. The Class 08 for Train Simulator is available in EWS maroon/gold livery and Freightliner's famous green livery, and features TSX effects, new locomotive physics, detailed cab interior and accurate driving controls, plus MEA and MFA wagons.
