Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty продолжает сюжет первого Metal Gear Solid, и вы вновь выступаете в роли Solid Snake. Вы начинаете игру в дождливую погоду, имея при себе лишь пистолет с транквилизатором. Но на протяжении всей игры у вас будет множество различного оружия, включая старые FAMAS и Socom, а также новые, например АК-47. Снейк теперь может использовать комбо, что бы выводить из строя врагов, заглядывать за угол, выполнять акробатические прыжки, висеть на уступах и многое другое. Как обычно в распоряжении у Снейка имеются различные гаджеты.
