At last! I know a lot of DC fans have been waiting longingly for this news. The work on translating my next project is over! RUN=DIM as Black Soul for the SEGA Dreamcast console enters the beta testing phase! Thanks to esperknight, the long dialogues and problematic MAIN.KSF file finally work! I even picked up some graphics. Now I'm playing, correcting typos, and soon the Japanese-to-English patch for this mecha-turn-based strategy will be ready for download. Keep fingers crossed!l

Run=Dim News | 17.10.2021 - Return to after break.
I apologize to everyone for the long lack of news about the RUN=DIM project. The reason was the renovation of the new house and the damage of the private laptop. I am already returning to work on the translation for a few days. The translation has not been abadoned, and we are slowly approaching the end - currently we fight with the MAIN.KSF file, which displays windows in the dispatch menu, causes the most problems. More news coming soon!

We are slowly approaching the end of the translation of the RUN=DIM project. Esperknight fights against pointers and ram by extending the limit of texts in dialogues. Hope the final beta tests and bug fixes will start in end of June.

Dear fans,
Good news. RafaMGam has translated the entire script available in the game from Japanese!
Now it's time to convert the rest of the graphics, movies and painstaking implementation of the tests. We also managed to test the game system - everything works fine. Keep your fingers crossed for further work.

Run=Dim News | 4.03.2021 - A knight on the horizon!
Esperknight joined the our team once again. He is a specialist in romhacking and Atlas text implementation known e.g. from the Napple Tale, Shikigami no Shiro, Yarudora and Blue Submarine no.6 projects. Thanks to him, we hope the works moved forward strongly and manual changes will be automated. Thank you!
Run=Dim News | 11.02.2021 - The first test
Here is! The first test and beta video of the start of the Japanese to English translation of RUN = DIM as Black Soul running on a real SEGA Dreamcast console. The video is available on my YT channel at the link : https://youtu.be/BOSgRiijbnw
How is the work progressing? English font work ^^ I found and hacked all graphics containing Japanese text. The next step is to find all dialogues, descriptions etc. which RafaMGam will translate carefully and slowly. Finally, there are videos of the character's Bio and the biggest 1ST_READ.BIN file waiting for us.

The status huh? In the first phase, I focused on hacking non-standard PVR graphics and viewing the structure of all files on the GD-ROM, and exporting all Japanese texts available in the game.

RUN=DIM as Black Soul is now Translated into English!

Despite being a Dreamcast super nerd, I must admit I wasn't aware of the Japanese-exclusive "RUN=DIM as Black Soul" until community stalwart Rolly announced that an English fan translation was in the works for it. Today, I am reminded of this game yet again, because late yesterday we learned that that very translation patch had finally been released.
For those unaware, Rolly (along with frequent collaborator RafaMGam) has been involved in many translation projects for some really cool Dreamcast games, such as The Lost Golem, Karous, L.O.L.: Lack of Love, and probably most notably, Blue Submarine No. 6: Time And Tide. Rolly has also been responsible for some translations of DC games into Polish too.
So, back to RUN=DIM as Black Soul. Peculiar name, but it's essentially a turn-based strategy RPG with mechs. It was developed by Yuki Enterprise and published by Idea Factory in 2001. It appears to be part of a wider franchise (Run=DIM) which includes an anime series, as well as titles for the PlayStation 2 and the WonderSwan Color. Those who worked on the translation recommend the game to fans of Front Mission, Rayblade or Super Robot Wars.
Writing about Run=Dim as Black Soul in his A to Z of Dreamcast games guide, fellow Junkyarder Mike explains that the game "has a fairly large amount of Japanese text interspersed with its stat heavy presentation, which is rather daunting, and it's not exactly clear what is going on to anyone who can't understand the language." He finishes his blurb by saying "I just wish I knew what was going on." Well, Mike, today's your lucky day! With this translation patch, Run=Dim is now penetrable for English speakers. I will definitely be giving it a go.
